Moroccan Sahara: Finland Supports Autonomy Under Moroccan Sovereignty as the Most Feasible Solution

On Sunday, Finland asserted that “a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could represent one of the most feasible solutions” to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
This position was articulated in a joint statement adopted in Rabat following a meeting between Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, and Elina Valtonen, the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is on an official visit to Morocco.
In this regard, Finland has “reiterated its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco,” considering it a serious and credible foundation for achieving a definitive and mutually acceptable political solution, as noted in the statement.
Furthermore, the two ministers “welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025)” and reaffirmed their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy aimed at reaching a just, sustainable, and mutually acceptable political solution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
