Morocco and Indonesia Sign Strategic Agreement on Recognition of Halal Certification

Morocco and Indonesia Sign Strategic Halal Certification Agreement

On Wednesday in Jakarta, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Indonesia signed a strategic agreement concerning mutual recognition of halal certification. This agreement was concluded between the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR) and the Indonesian Agency for Halal Product Assurance (BPJPH).

The signing ceremony was attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Redouane Houssaini, along with Mr. Ahmad Haikal Hasan, the head of BPJPH. Both parties highlighted the importance of this agreement in strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries.

A Legal Framework to Facilitate Trade

This agreement establishes a legal and normative framework that will enable Moroccan operators to align with the new Indonesian regulations, which will require halal certification for all imported products starting in October 2026.

Additionally, the agreement aims to remove technical obstacles to trade, thereby facilitating the access of Moroccan products to the Indonesian market and promoting an increase in trade flows between the two nations.

Progressing Diplomatic Momentum

During the ceremony, Mr. Houssaini noted that this agreement serves as an important lever to bridge the gap between the current level of trade and the mutual economic ambitions of Morocco and Indonesia.

The signing also follows another agreement made the day before in Geneva in the health sector, illustrating the positive and ongoing dynamics of bilateral relations.

Towards a Diversified Economic Partnership

This new agreement is part of a shared commitment to enhance multifaceted cooperation between Rabat and Jakarta, expanding opportunities in trade, the agri-food industry, and investment, all aimed at fostering a sustainable economic partnership.
