OCP Nutricrops Participates in the 34th Aapresid Congress: "Our Soil, Our Voice"

OCP Nutricrops took part in the 34th edition of the Aapresid Congress, held over three days under the theme "Nuestro suelo, nuestra voz" (Our Soil, Our Voice). The event gathered several key players in the agricultural sector to discuss soil health, phosphorus management, and agricultural resilience.

During this meeting, Leonardus Vergütz, Chief Scientific Officer of Science, Agronomy & Innovation at OCP Nutricrops, participated in a roundtable alongside Fernando O. Garcia, former director of IPNI for the Southern Cone of Latin America.

Discussions centered on the depletion of phosphorus in Argentine soils and the measures necessary to address this issue. The conversations highlighted a significant imbalance in the management of this essential nutrient.

Over the past 30 years, approximately 4.5 million tons of phosphorus have been extracted from Argentine soils, while the phosphorus renewal rate has only reached about 60% in recent years.

This situation extends beyond the availability of phosphorus; it can also have significant consequences for soil organic matter, structure, agricultural productivity, and carbon sequestration capacity.

Participants emphasized the importance of nutrient management based on scientific principles, notably the "4R" concept: applying the right source, at the right rate, at the right time, and in the right place.

This approach aims to minimize nutrient losses, enhance fertilizer efficiency, and optimize agricultural resource use, contributing to more sustainable and resilient farming practices.

Through its participation in the Aapresid Congress, OCP Nutricrops continues to strengthen its position as a scientific partner and committed player in the sustainability of Argentine agriculture.
