TAQA Morocco Launches a Strategic Reorganization to Accelerate Its Energy Transition

The Supervisory Board of TAQA Morocco has approved a significant strategic reorganization aimed at adapting the company to the new challenges of the energy sector. This transformation plans to create specialized subsidiaries, each focused on a specific activity or asset portfolio.
Through this new governance structure, the group aims to enhance its operational efficiency and accelerate its growth in areas related to the Kingdom’s energy transition.
A Multi-Asset Platform Model
With this reorganization, TAQA Morocco will adopt a multi-asset holding model, allowing it to oversee all its subsidiaries and coordinate their development around a common strategy.
This new structure will encompass several strategic areas, including low-carbon electricity production, renewable energy, green hydrogen, seawater desalination, and infrastructure dedicated to water and electricity transport.
The objective is to enhance the group’s ability to support major energy projects in Morocco while diversifying its activities.
First Step: The Jorf Lasfar Power Plant
The first phase of this transformation will involve units 1 to 4 of the Jorf Lasfar thermal power plant, one of the kingdom’s main electricity production sites.
Assets, rights, and obligations related to these facilities will be transferred to a new subsidiary called Jorf Lasfar Energy Company 1-4, which will be 100% owned by TAQA Morocco.
The group specifies that the equity associated with these assets will remain fully with the parent company, thus ensuring the continuity of its financial structure.
A Gradual Implementation
TAQA Morocco indicates that details regarding the implementation of this reorganization will be communicated later, once the various stages of the transfer are finalized.
This transformation is part of the group’s strategy to strengthen its positioning in future sectors related to decarbonization, sustainable water management, and energy infrastructure.
A Key Player in Morocco’s Energy Sector
Today, TAQA Morocco is among the leading electricity producers in the kingdom. The group meets nearly 34% of the national electricity demand and accounts for approximately 17% of the installed production capacity in Morocco.
With this new organization, TAQA Morocco aims to consolidate its role in the national energy transition while developing new avenues of growth focused on clean energy and strategic infrastructure.
