Congolese Local Players Secure Victory Over Angola at the African Nations Championship
The Congolese national team of local players triumphed over Angola with a score of 2-0 on Thursday in Nairobi, during the fourth matchday of Group A in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). This victory allows the Moroccan team, which earlier defeated Zambia 3-1, to move into second place in the group, buoyed by a stronger offensive record.
As the day concluded, Kenya remained at the top of the standings with 7 points, despite not playing a match. Both Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have accumulated 6 points apiece and share the same goal difference of +3. However, the Lions of the Atlas edge out the Congolese thanks to a higher number of goals scored (5 for Morocco, compared to 4 for the DRC).
The two teams that have been eliminated from the tournament are Angola, finishing with 4 points after contesting all their matches, and Zambia, leaving the competition with zero points.
The Congolese goals came from Jephte Kitambala Bola in the 58th minute and Mokonzi Katumbwe in the 70th minute.
