WHO Officially Recognizes Morocco’s Progress

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced that the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean has officially classified Morocco as a “country controlling hepatitis B.”
This decision was adopted during the session held on November 13, 2025, in Cairo, marking a significant advancement in the national fight against epidemic diseases.

A Key Step Towards Eliminating Hepatitis B

This international recognition highlights the considerable progress made by Morocco in the prevention, screening, and management of viral hepatitis B.
It also constitutes an important milestone on the path to eliminating this disease as a public health issue.

National Achievements Applauded by WHO

The WHO’s decision is based on several key accomplishments:

  • Systematic vaccination of newborns, integrated into a robust and impactful national program;

  • Strengthening of the epidemiological surveillance system and diagnostic capacities of laboratories;

  • Ongoing updates of therapeutic protocols, developed based on data from the latest national survey on viral hepatitis B.

Recognition of the Central Role of Healthcare Professionals

The Ministry expresses its deep gratitude to healthcare professionals for their commitment in planning, implementing, and monitoring public health programs.
