Grand Stade de Tanger Reopens After Modernization

After several months of renovation and expansion, the Grand Stade de Tanger has reopened its doors, ready to host a friendly match between Morocco and Mozambique.

The refurbishment has increased the stadium’s capacity to 75,500 seats, transforming this sports facility into a world-class venue that meets FIFA 2030 standards and making it one of the largest stadiums on the African continent.

An Iconic and Innovative Sports Complex

Located in the heart of Tangier’s Sports City, the Grand Stade de Tanger spans nearly 74 hectares and serves as the city’s primary sports hub. Managed by SONARGES, it offers facilities that promote daily sports activities and green spaces for outdoor pursuits.

The stadium features three tiers of stands adorned in blue and white, a VIP/VVIP area accommodating 1,300 spectators, and 142 boxes that can host between 10 and 20 people each. The hospitality suite can welcome 210 guests.

State-of-the-Art Technologies and Infrastructure

The field is equipped with a hybrid natural turf, the first of its kind in Africa, combining natural grass with synthetic fibers for optimal performance and enhanced durability.

The amenities also include:

  • Four locker rooms for teams, complete with massage rooms, cryotherapy facilities, and warm-up areas.

  • A mixed zone spanning over 500 square meters.

  • A press stand and conference room catering to 210 journalists.

  • Multimedia control rooms and giant screens measuring 220 square meters, along with a perimeter screen of 700 meters.

Enhanced Security and Accessibility

The Venue Operations Center (VOC) includes nearly 900 cameras and facial recognition technologies to ensure safety.

The stadium also features:

  • VVIP parking (for 400 vehicles) and VIP parking (for 600-700 vehicles).

  • Public parking for 3,000 vehicles.

  • Two elevators to ensure accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility at all levels.

International Spotlight on Tangier

Highlighted by spectacular nighttime lighting, the Grand Stade de Tanger is positioned as a venue capable of hosting major international sports competitions, reflecting the global sports and cultural prominence of Tangier.
