Energy Transition: Synergies Between Morocco and Andalusia

Andalusia and Morocco: A Shared Vision for Sustainable Development and Energy Transition

Andalusia and Morocco are embarking on an ambitious strategic vision for sustainable development and energy transition, paving the way for a strengthened partnership in clean energy, green hydrogen, and sustainable resource management. This was stated by Rodrigo Rodríguez Hans, Vice President of Prodetur (the Seville Provincial Council).

According to him, the geographical proximity and complementary resources make Morocco a natural partner for Andalusia within the framework of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. He emphasized that both countries share the same goals: sustainability, innovation, energy efficiency, and responsible development. This strategic convergence, as the Andalusian official noted, creates promising prospects for technological and environmental firms on both sides of the Mediterranean.

Rodríguez Hans also highlighted the active role of the Seville Provincial Council in strengthening institutional relationships, specifying that the entrepreneurial fabric of Seville is eager to engage further in joint projects, particularly in solar energy, green hydrogen production, and innovative energy management solutions.

Presenting the dynamics of his region, he recalled that 90.6% of the installed electrical capacity in the province of Seville currently comes from renewable sources, accounting for nearly a quarter of the total in Andalusia. This remarkable performance is driven by flagship projects such as the green hydrogen plant at the Port of Seville, Heineken’s thermosolar power plant, and the HGreen La Isla facility in Dos Hermanas.

For Mr. Rodríguez Hans, these initiatives are not only a powerful economic lever but also a successful model of sustainable development, fostering the creation of skilled jobs and social stability.

He concluded by stressing the importance of enhancing the exchange of expertise between Morocco and Andalusia, asserting that energy cooperation between the two countries reflects a shared ambition: to make the Euro-Mediterranean region a reference point for ecological transition and green growth.
