Sektioui Aims for Victory Against Saudi Arabia

The head coach of the Moroccan national squad, Tarik Sektioui, stated on Sunday that the Atlas Lions will step onto the field with a clear objective: to defeat Saudi Arabia on Monday during the third matchday of Group B in the Arab Cup. A victory would secure them the top position and a comfortable qualification for the quarter-finals.
In a press conference, Sektioui made his intentions clear:
“A draw is not part of our objectives, even though it could qualify us. We want to win and finish at the top of the group,” he declared ahead of the match scheduled at Lusail Stadium at 6:00 PM (GMT+1).
A Challenging Match Against a Serious Contender
Acknowledging the difficulty of facing the Saudi team, which Sektioui described as “one of the strongest contenders for the title,” the coach emphasized the importance of humility and respect for the opponent:
“The level is tightening among the teams, especially since the start of the group stage. Every match is tough.”
Benabid Remains the Starting Goalkeeper
Regarding the goalkeeper position, Sektioui confirmed that Mehdi Benabid remains the undisputed first choice. The decision to play Salaheddine Chihab in the first match against Comoros, according to him, was made to rest Benabid and avoid any risk of injury.
A Calm Preparation and Steadfast Determination
Player Mohamed Moufid assured that the preparations are taking place in “a positive atmosphere,” adding that the team is fully aware of the responsibility it carries to secure qualification.
The defender from Wydad Casablanca emphasized that matches like this “often come down to small details,” and the Atlas Lions are determined to triumph against the Saudis.
A Decisive Final Round in Group B
The other match in Group B will see Comoros face Oman on Monday, also at 6:00 PM (GMT+1) in Doha, in a final day that promises to be crucial for the tournament’s progression.
