Tennis: Australian Open – Venus Williams Competes at Age 45

American tennis player Venus Williams will take part in the Australian Open at the age of 45, making her the oldest woman to compete in this Grand Slam tournament (January 18 – February 1).

Venus will surpass Japanese player Kimiko Date, who was 44 during her last appearance in 2015.

A finalist at the Australian Open in 2003 and 2017, the American player is returning to the competition for the first time since 2021.

In preparation, the four-time Australian Open doubles champion will participate in the Auckland tournament in New Zealand, scheduled from January 5 to 11.

A seven-time singles champion, Venus had been absent from the tour for nearly a year and a half before making her return to the courts in July at the Washington tournament.
