Savings Capacity: A Slightly Increased Optimism Among Households in Q4 2025
According to the latest findings from the continuous household survey conducted by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) for the fourth quarter of 2025, the percentage of households reporting the ability to save over the next 12 months stands at 10.7%. This figure indicates a modest improvement compared to previous quarters; however, the overall savings index remains negative.
Savings Index Still Negative but Improving
The composite index of households’ saving capacity is currently at -78.5 points, an improvement from -80.8 points in the previous quarter and -77.8 points during the same period in 2024. This trend suggests a decline in pessimism among households, although it has yet to reach a positive level.
Persistent Rise in Food Prices
Simultaneously, 91.7% of households reported an increase in food prices over the past 12 months. The corresponding index is now at -90.9 points, also showing improvement from -95.5 points in the previous quarter and -97.2 points a year ago.
Expectations for the Next 12 Months
Looking ahead, regarding the anticipated trends in food prices for the upcoming year, 75% of households expect prices to continue to rise, while only 2% anticipate a decrease. This reflects a prevailing perception of ongoing inflationary pressure within households.
