Al Haouz Province: Rainfall Revitalizes the Agricultural Sector

The recent rainfall recorded in Morocco has had a positive effect on the agricultural sector, helping to improve water resources, bolster water supplies, and energize agricultural activities in several regions of the Kingdom.
A Positive Trend in the Oulad M’Taâ Commune
In the Al Haouz province, this positive trend is particularly evident in the commune of Oulad M’Taâ. The recent rains, accompanied by snowfall in the neighboring mountainous areas, have improved the condition of crops and pastures, creating better prospects for agricultural production and livestock breeding.
After seven long years of drought, farmers welcomed this significant precipitation with great relief, hoping for satisfactory yields and improved living conditions in rural areas.
Strengthening Water Resources and Dams
Zineb Bensassi, head of the Agricultural Production Project Implementation Service at the Marrakech-Safi Regional Agriculture Directorate, emphasized to the Maghreb Arab Press Agency the importance of these regular and well-distributed rains, along with the snowfall in the mountainous regions of the province.
She specified that these rainfall events have provided a new boost to the agricultural sector, significantly enhancing the groundwater levels, facilitating irrigation, and contributing to the filling of reservoirs, which are now nearly 60% of their capacity in the region.
Positive Impact on Crops and Pastures
These conditions have also allowed for an expected increase in autumn crop yields, the strengthening of natural pastures, and improved vegetation cover while reducing pressure on livestock breeders.
According to Bensassi, vegetable and fruit production is expected to be abundant, which will help increase supply in the markets, stabilize prices, and even lower them, especially with the holy month of Ramadan approaching.
Farmers’ Satisfaction
Abdelatif Badoui, a farmer from Oulad M’Taâ, expressed his satisfaction with the recent rains, emphasizing that they will provide sufficient pastures for livestock. He added that these rains have been beneficial for grains, fruit trees like olives, legumes, and vegetable crops, particularly peas and broad beans, noting that this year’s cereal production is already significant.
Encouraging Outlook for the Agricultural Season
These indicators promise a prosperous agricultural season in the Al Haouz province, with positive repercussions for farmers and market supply. This improvement is also expected to strengthen food security, support citizens’ purchasing power, and ensure the availability of consumer products.
