France to Host the 2nd International Summit on Nuclear Energy on Tuesday

France to Host the Second International Nuclear Energy Summit
On Tuesday, France will host the second International Nuclear Energy Summit, an initiative led by French President Emmanuel Macron in close collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This high-level meeting, following the inaugural edition held in Brussels in March 2024, will bring together heads of state and government, leaders from international organizations, financial institutions, industry representatives, and experts. The discussions will focus on the role of civil nuclear energy in addressing global energy and climate challenges.
The IAEA will also contribute by organizing roundtables and technical discussions, which will cover advancements in nuclear technology, safety, financing, innovation, and international cooperation.
Set against the backdrop of rising electricity demand and accelerating decarbonization strategies, this summit aims to establish itself as a key political forum for the development of civil nuclear energy. It will complement the technical discussions facilitated by the IAEA and precede several significant international milestones in 2026, including the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
According to the organizers, this meeting will reaffirm the role of nuclear energy in energy security, the transition to low-carbon electricity, and industrial development, particularly in Europe.
Currently, nuclear energy accounts for nearly 10% of global electricity production and is seen by many countries as a complement to renewable energy sources. This helps ensure a controllable and decarbonized energy output.
The summit’s agenda outlines that the morning sessions will feature addresses from heads of state and government, while the afternoon will consist of various panels focusing on the financing of nuclear projects, next-generation technologies—including small modular reactors—fuel supply security, and the management of radioactive materials and waste.
Beyond political and technical exchanges, the summit aims to foster the emergence of concrete initiatives and partnerships between states, international organizations, financial institutions, and industry stakeholders. The goal is to promote the safe, sustainable development of civil nuclear energy in alignment with global climate objectives.
