Flooding in Kenya: Death Toll Rises to 108

The toll from heavy rains that have been pounding various regions of Kenya since early March has risen to at least 108 deaths, according to a new count from the National Police Service (NPS).
As per this latest update from the NPS, no fewer than 2,700 families have been forced to flee their homes, while authorities are working to restore traffic on roads rendered impassable by the heavy rainfall, which complicates access to affected areas.
Despite a lull in rainfall in some regions, police have warned that the risk of flooding remains high due to saturated soils and clogged drainage systems.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to closely follow weather advisories to mitigate risks as adverse weather conditions continue.
Scientific studies have highlighted an increase in extreme weather events in East Africa, a phenomenon that climatologists partly attribute to the effects of climate change.
