Visit to the Ourir Station of SRM Souss Massa: 30 Participants in the “CESAR 2” Program Engaged in Field Immersion

As part of the final phase of the “CESAR 2” program, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), initiatives aiming to support green entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development continue in the Souss Massa region.

The program aims to support freelancers, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as cooperatives operating in the water, sanitation, and related sectors, by enhancing their technical and managerial capacities and facilitating their access to new economic opportunities.

In this context, SRM Souss Massa organized a field visit to the Ourir wastewater treatment station, located north of Agadir, for the benefit of 30 beneficiaries of the program.

This station is a vital infrastructure for the region, with a treatment capacity of several thousand cubic meters of wastewater per day. The treated water is partially reused, particularly for irrigating green spaces and certain agricultural uses, thus contributing to a more efficient management of water resources.

During this visit, company representatives presented detailed technical explanations on the different stages of treatment, including:

  • pre-treatment to remove solid waste,
  • biological treatment to reduce organic load,
  • and filtration and disinfection to ensure the quality of treated water.

Speakers also emphasized the strategic role of this station in:

  • protecting groundwater resources,
  • reducing environmental impacts,
  • and improving sanitary conditions for thousands of residents.

This visit is part of a series of practical activities organized by the “CESAR 2” program, aimed at bringing beneficiaries closer to real-world situations and providing them with a better understanding of existing opportunities in areas such as wastewater reuse, environmental services, and innovative sanitation solutions.

Furthermore, the actions of SRM Souss Massa align with a national dynamic focused on environmental sustainability, particularly in a context marked by water stress, where the valorization of treated wastewater becomes a strategic alternative.

Ultimately, this initiative illustrates the importance of partnerships between international institutional actors and local operators to promote a green economy, support innovation, and foster the creation of sustainable jobs in the Souss Massa region.
