The MAScIR Foundation Wins the 2024 Galien Africa Award in Dakar

The MAScIR Foundation, affiliated with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, was honored on Friday in Dakar with the prestigious Galien Africa Award 2024 in the category of Best Medical Technology.

The award was presented by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to Professor Hassan Sefrioui, Director and Executive Committee member of MAScIR, during the closing ceremony of the 7th edition of the Galien Africa Forum, which took place from October 22 to 25 in the Senegalese capital.

In a statement to the MAP, Professor Sefrioui expressed his satisfaction with this recognition, which honors years of excellence and innovation in research and development (R&D) at MAScIR, particularly in the field of diagnosing prevalent diseases in Africa.

As a member of the World Health Organization’s Diagnostic Technical Advisory Group, Professor Sefrioui emphasized that this award is the culmination of extensive work that began in 2010 at the MAScIR Medical Biotechnology Center, aimed at establishing an innovative technological platform for developing “Made in Morocco” kits for diagnosing various diseases.

The MAScIR Foundation seeks to promote and develop research hubs in the fields of materials and nanomaterials, biotechnology, microelectronics, and life sciences. Its initiatives focus on applied research and innovation to meet market needs.

The Galien Africa Forum, which held its 7th session in Dakar under the theme “Health and Community Actions in Response to Climate and Environmental Crises in Africa,” aims to strengthen research and sustainable development by sharing experiences in addressing significant public health challenges.

This edition brought together participants from around the globe, including Nobel laureates, political leaders, and researchers, serving as a high-level scientific exchange platform on issues of common interest, as well as on the health priorities of the African continent.

The Galien Africa Award showcases significant innovations and advancements in the fields of discoveries and therapies, recognizing researchers, institutions, and pharmaceutical industries, whether public or private.
