Morocco Participates in the 61st Session of the Human Rights Council
The Kingdom of Morocco will participate in the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, scheduled from February 23 to March 31, 2026, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to human rights at the international level.
A Participation Marked by an Official Intervention
According to a statement from the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights, the Moroccan delegation will include the Interministerial Delegate, Mohamed El Habib Belkouch, who will deliver the Kingdom’s address during the plenary session dedicated to government delegations.
High-Level Meeting at the Palace of Nations
The Moroccan official will also chair a high-level meeting focused on the International Network of National Implementation, Reporting, and Monitoring Mechanisms, which Morocco coordinates. This gathering will take place on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Palace of Nations, under the theme: “Support for the Implementation Plan and Future Challenges of the National Mechanisms Network.”
The event is organized in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the permanent missions to the Human Rights Council from Morocco, Brazil, Portugal, and Paraguay, in addition to the Global Rights Group.
Highlighting Achievements and International Cooperation
The meeting will provide an opportunity to showcase the network’s accomplishments, including the adoption of its action plan for the period 2026-2030, the launch of its virtual platform, and the renewal of the membership call to encourage the exchange of experiences and enhance the role of national mechanisms at the state level.
On the sidelines of this session, the Interministerial Delegate will also hold bilateral discussions with several UN officials and international human rights figures, illustrating Morocco’s openness to international dynamics and its willingness to share its experience in promoting and protecting human rights.
