Marrakech: Launch of the GISS 2026 Proceedings under the Theme “Regional Solutions, Global Benefits”

The 5th edition of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026), co-organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Glorify Him, officially commenced on Wednesday, April 14, in Marrakech, with the theme “Regional Solutions, Global Benefits.”
The opening ceremony, presided over by Mr. Abdessamad KAYOUH, Minister of Transport and Logistics, was attended by Mr. Toshiyuki ONUMA, President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), along with approximately 40 foreign ministers responsible for civil aviation, Directors General of Civil Aviation from over 80 countries, high-ranking officials and experts from ICAO, as well as key players in the global aviation industry—totaling over 1,500 participants representing more than 130 countries.
This symposium is part of the “No Country Left Behind” initiative, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of support for the implementation of international standards by translating political commitments into concrete and measurable outcomes for the harmonious and sustainable development of global air transport.
The opening ceremony featured high-profile speeches emphasizing the importance of accelerating the modernization of air transport systems, strengthening state capacities in matters of safety and security, supervision, and promoting the sustainable development of the sector.
Several agreements and partnerships were signed during the ceremony, reflecting the collective desire to enhance technical cooperation, mobilize appropriate financing, and support states in developing efficient, resilient, and secure aeronautical systems.
The event was also highlighted by an aerial display from the Marche Verte patrol of the Royal Air Forces and the inauguration of the exhibition hall, providing participants with a direct immersion into the sector’s innovations and solutions. A closed-door ministerial roundtable allowed decision-makers to examine strategic mechanisms ensuring the effective implementation of ICAO standards while promoting a balanced and inclusive development of global air transport.
The agenda for this international gathering includes seven thematic panels focusing on aspects such as air connectivity as a lever for economic growth, social cohesion, and regional integration; air safety; civil aviation financing; challenges related to airport infrastructure; and talent development to prepare for the next generation of aviation.
The GISS 2026 reaffirms the collective commitment to a safer, more effective, sustainable, and inclusive global aviation, transforming regional solutions into global benefits for all member states.
