Opening of the 15th Regional Book and Publishing Fair in Dakhla

The 15th edition of the Regional Book and Publishing Fair in Dakhla was inaugurated on Wednesday evening, launched by the Regional Directorate of Culture for Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. This significant event in the regional cultural calendar will continue until December 3, coinciding with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March and the 70th anniversary of Independence Day.

A Fair Dedicated to Promoting Books and Reading

Organized with the support of the Directorate of Books, Libraries, and Archives, in partnership with the local governance and elected authorities, this edition brings together around thirty exhibitors. Among the participants are national publishing houses, local and national bookstores, as well as various institutions dedicated to the book and reading sector.

In a statement to the MAP, Mamoun El Boukhari, the Regional Director of Culture, emphasized the importance of this event which honors books, publishers, and readers alike. He also acknowledged the participation of exhibitors from different regions of the Kingdom, offering a diverse and accessible selection.

Over 20,000 Works on Display to Promote Reading

Each year, the Fair provides the public with around 20,000 works, encompassing a wide range of disciplines. The primary goal of this event is to strengthen the culture of reading, support authors, and make the world of books more accessible to citizens, especially the youth.

A Rich and Varied Cultural Program

The 2024 edition features a diverse program that includes:

  • Fun and educational activities for children
  • Thematic conferences and intellectual meetings
  • Book signings by their authors
  • Literary and poetic evenings

These activities aim to invigorate the regional cultural scene and encourage literary creation.

The Education Professions Center as the Honored Guest

The official launch took place in the presence of the Secretary General for Regional Affairs of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Wilaya, accompanied by elected officials, local authority representatives, and civil society actors. This edition is hosting the Regional Center for Education and Training Professions (CRMEF) as the honored guest, highlighting the central role of education and training in the region’s cultural development.
