Switzerland and Morocco Strengthen Their Strategic Partnership

Strengthening Strategic Ties Between Morocco and Switzerland
Laurent Wehrli, the president of the Swiss-Moroccan parliamentary group in the Swiss National Council, praised the confirmation of the "strategic nature" of relations between Morocco and Switzerland during the visit of Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita to Bern.
In a message shared on LinkedIn, Wehrli emphasized that the two countries are strengthening cooperation based on economy, migration, and regional stability.
High-Level Discussions in Bern
During this visit, Nasser Bourita held talks with several Swiss officials, including Federal Counselor Ignazio Cassis, head of Swiss diplomacy, as well as Justice and Police Minister Beat Jans. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various strategic fields.
Progressing Economic Cooperation
The Swiss official highlighted that Morocco is a key partner for Switzerland in North Africa. Trade exchanges between the two countries reached nearly one billion Swiss francs in 2025, demonstrating a sustained economic dynamic. He also pointed out Morocco’s attractiveness for Swiss companies, thanks to its political stability and growth potential.
Climate, Innovation, and Scientific Research
The partnership also encompasses the areas of climate and innovation. A bilateral agreement signed in 2022 aims to support Swiss climate goals through carbon offset mechanisms and to promote investments in Morocco. Another agreement signed in the same year provides for joint funding of academic research projects and the organization of scientific forums in both countries.
70 Years of Diplomatic Relations
Morocco and Switzerland will celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2026, which were established shortly after the Kingdom’s independence, reaffirming the strength and continuity of this partnership.
