Hantavirus Risk Remains Low, According to WHO Director-General
On Wednesday, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), stated that the risk of a large-scale spread of the Hantavirus remains "low" at this time, following the detection of cases aboard a cruise ship.
Health Monitoring of Detected Cases
In a message posted on the platform X, the WHO official emphasized that the organization is closely monitoring the health status of the affected passengers and crew, in coordination with the ship’s operator.
International Coordination for Care
He also noted that the WHO is collaborating with the relevant countries to ensure proper medical surveillance and, if necessary, to organize medical evacuations for those impacted.
No Global Threat at This Time
Lastly, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus underscored that the current situation does not pose a global threat, with WHO assessments confirming that the public health risk level remains limited.
