Eid Al-Adha: Government Implements Strict Measures to Regulate Livestock Sales and Stabilize Prices

As Eid Al-Adha 1447 H approaches, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has issued a decree establishing a set of temporary measures to regulate the marketing of livestock intended for sacrifice. This initiative aims to prevent any unjustified price increases and ensure market transparency.

This decision is part of a broader effort to protect the purchasing power of citizens and to strengthen fair competition rules in the sacrificial animal markets.

Strengthened Oversight of Livestock Markets

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Department, these measures have been adopted in compliance with current legislation, particularly the law on pricing freedom and competition, as well as provisions related to local governance.

The main objective is to ensure the normal, transparent, and equitable functioning of the markets while combating speculative practices that could disrupt the balance of supply and demand.

Exclusive Sales at Authorized Markets

Among the key provisions is the requirement that sacrificial animals be sold exclusively in officially authorized markets, except for direct sales conducted within regulated frameworks, particularly on farms.

Sellers will also need to declare their identity, the number of animals offered for sale, and their origin to local authorities before entering the markets.

Combating Speculation and Abuse

The decree formally prohibits several practices deemed contrary to fair competition, including:

  • Reselling animals purchased at the markets
  • Artificial price manipulation
  • Collusion among operators to raise prices
  • Speculative stockpiling aimed at creating artificial scarcity

These measures aim to limit behaviors that could trigger price surges in the livestock market.

Penalties and Administrative Sanctions Anticipated

The text provides a strict repressive framework against violators, including fines and prison sentences as stipulated by current legislation.

Relevant authorities may also proceed with the temporary closure of non-compliant sales points and the seizure of animals and equipment used in violations.

Mobilization to Stabilize the Market

Public authorities are calling on all industry professionals to adhere to the established rules and adopt responsible behaviors to ensure price stability and proper organization of the markets.

This initiative aims to ensure a smooth and transparent supply of livestock intended for sacrifice while protecting consumers from any form of speculation.
