Morocco Reinforces Its Status as a Global Leader in Road Safety by Hosting the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on the Subject in Marrakech
Morocco is solidifying its position as an international leader in road safety by hosting the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on this topic in Marrakech, affirmed Young Tae Kim, the Secretary General of the International Transport Forum (ITF), on Wednesday.
In an interview with the MAP, Mr. Tae Kim emphasized that the Kingdom is establishing itself as a key player in road safety, a field in which collective efforts have led to significant progress in recent years. "Through its proactive policy, the Kingdom has made notable advances in reducing traffic accidents and improving road infrastructure," he added, noting that the situation on Moroccan roads is clearly improving.
He also highlighted Morocco’s role within the ITF, particularly during its presidency in 2021-2022, a period in which the country underscored the importance of road safety. "This commitment has yielded visible progress on the ground," he asserted.
Within the ITF, which comprises 69 member countries, Morocco occupies a strategic position, particularly in Africa, and its commitment to road safety allows it to play a significant role in discussions on transportation at both the regional and international levels. "Its leadership in Africa is undeniable, and its role within the ITF, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the face of geopolitical challenges, has been crucial," Mr. Tae Kim specified.
Regarding the proceedings of the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, Mr. Tae Kim stressed that this event is taking place at a critical moment when road safety remains a major global challenge. He expressed hope that the conference, which brings together experts and officials from around the world, will lead to concrete and impactful measures concerning public policies in many countries.
Despite the progress made, he insisted on the need to intensify collective efforts, emphasizing that the number of road accident casualties remains high. "It is imperative to continue raising awareness and working towards tangible results," he concluded.
Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 4th edition of this conference brings together more than 100 ministers and official delegations from the transport, interior, infrastructure, and health sectors, reflecting the international commitment to road safety.
