Zambia Reiterates Its Support for the Territorial Integrity of the Kingdom and Commends Resolution 2797 Affirming Moroccan Sovereignty Over the Sahara

Zambia Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty Over the Sahara
On Thursday, the Republic of Zambia reaffirmed its strong and unwavering position in support of the territorial integrity and Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.
Zambia also commended the historic adoption of Resolution 2797 by the United Nations Security Council on October 31, 2025. This resolution endorses the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only serious, credible, and sustainable basis for achieving a political solution to the artificial dispute surrounding the Sahara.
This position was articulated in a joint statement released in Rabat following discussions between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, who was on a working visit to Morocco.
Minister Haimbe also expressed his country’s support for the United Nations’ efforts to find a resolution to this regional dispute, as well as for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, viewing it as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to address this issue.
Furthermore, he emphasized that this initiative serves as a pragmatic and constructive foundation aimed at achieving a durable and mutually acceptable political solution.
For his part, Minister Bourita praised the positive evolution of relations between the two brotherly countries in recent years, particularly highlighted by the opening of the Zambian Embassy in Rabat and its Consulate General in Laâyoune in October 2020.
