Agadir Links to Canada with the Launch of the First Direct Flight from Montreal to Agadir

Major Step Forward in Morocco’s Air Connectivity

A significant milestone has been achieved in enhancing Morocco’s air connectivity. The inaugural direct flight from the Canadian airline Air Transat, connecting Montreal to Agadir, landed on Saturday at Al Massira Airport, carrying 194 passengers. This event marks the official opening of this new transatlantic route.

Operating weekly every Friday, this direct flight, lasting 7 hours and 15 minutes, aims to strengthen exchanges between Canada and the Souss-Massa region. It particularly addresses the needs of the large Moroccan community residing in Canada, especially in Montreal, while also creating new opportunities for the tourism development of Agadir.

This new airline route serves as a strategic lever to bolster the appeal of Agadir as a destination and strengthen its positioning as the gateway to Atlantic Morocco. The anticipated benefits include an increase in tourist traffic as well as a boost to the local economy through job creation and the development of tourism-related activities.

Abdou Jaiidi, a representative of Air Transat, emphasized that this direct connection offers the Souss-Massa region privileged access to a high-potential North American market. Following the success of the Montreal-Marrakech route launched two years ago, the airline continues its expansion strategy in Morocco with this new destination.

The launch of this route comes amidst strong growth in the Canadian market. By the end of August 2025, over 174,000 Canadian visitors had been recorded in Morocco, marking a 29% increase from the previous year. This momentum solidifies Canada as a priority market for the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT).

Beyond strengthening exchanges between the two countries, the Montreal-Agadir route aligns with the national strategy aimed at diversifying tourist source markets, reducing the seasonality of tourist activity, and improving accessibility to the Kingdom’s main destinations.

With this new air connection, Agadir further solidifies its place on the international tourism map and opens up new growth prospects in the North American market.
