The Acting President of Korea Promises to Ensure National Stability Following the Impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol

Interim President of Korea Commits to National Stability Following Constitutional Court Ruling
Interim President of South Korea, Han Duck-soo, assured the public on Friday of his commitment to maintaining national stability in matters of security and diplomacy, following the unanimous decision by the Constitutional Court to uphold the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
In a televised address, Han stated, “As interim president, I will ensure there is no vacuum in national security or foreign affairs, and that the country maintains a firm and unwavering security posture.”
The Constitutional Court’s ruling resulted in Mr. Yoon’s ousting due to his brief imposition of martial law last December. South Korea is now required to hold a presidential election within 60 days of this ruling.
Han also pledged to take all necessary measures to ensure a smooth transition to the next government while overseeing a “fair” election. He emphasized his determination to maintain public order and “ensure that citizens feel safe.”
During an emergency meeting with government officials, the interim president insisted that the Executive continue its efforts to address pressing issues, such as the tariffs imposed by the United States on South Korea.
“I urge you to ensure that there are no gaps in state affairs during this remaining period, particularly in response to the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the Trump administration,” he stated.
Finally, Mr. Han called on government officials to maintain “political neutrality” to ensure a fair early election. He also urged political parties and the National Assembly to “set aside their differences” and unite “wisely” for the future of the nation.
