ONHYM Initiates a Strategic Transformation into a Public Limited Company

The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) is poised to turn a new page in its history following the Government Council’s approval of Bill No. 56.24, which transforms it into a Public Limited Company (PLC).
This shift represents a significant milestone in the process of reforming public establishments and companies in Morocco. It aligns with royal directives aimed at modernizing public governance and enhancing the effectiveness of the state’s strategic entities.
A Transformation in Line with Public Sector Reform
The transition of ONHYM into a Public Limited Company is part of a broader reform of Public Enterprises and Establishments (EEP), initiated to improve the performance, transparency, and competitiveness of Moroccan public institutions.
Through this change of status, the Office joins the ranks of the leading public entities engaged in this transformation dynamic, aimed at adapting their operations to new economic and strategic challenges.
Over Two Decades of Expertise Serving the Kingdom
Founded in 2003 following the merger of the Bureau of Mining Research and Participation (BRPM) and the National Office of Oil Research and Exploitation (ONAREP), ONHYM has developed recognized expertise over the years in mining and petroleum exploration.
The establishment has also created a significant geoscientific database, which serves as a strategic tool for the development of the Kingdom’s natural resources and for attracting both national and international investors.
A Recognition of the Office’s Performance
This transformation is the result of a journey marked by consistent performance and a significant contribution to the development of Morocco’s mining and energy sectors.
The results achieved by the Office in recent years have enhanced its institutional credibility and demonstrated its ability to evolve towards a more modern, performance-oriented management model.
Towards More Modern and Agile Governance
By adopting the status of Public Limited Company, ONHYM aims to strengthen its governance mechanisms, improve its operational flexibility, and solidify its role in executing national strategies related to natural resources.
This evolution should also enable the establishment to better meet the demands of international markets, while continuing its mission of enhancing Morocco’s mining and energy potential.
A Leverage to Support the Kingdom’s Ambitions
The transformation of ONHYM is part of a broader vision to strengthen the competitiveness of the Moroccan public sector and support major economic development projects.
Through this new organization, the Office intends to continue its commitment to growth, innovation, and the energy and mining sovereignty of the Kingdom, all while adapting to international standards of governance and performance.
