OMPIC: Trademark and Patent Filings Continue to Rise in Morocco

The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) continues its modernization efforts and support for innovation. Chaired by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, the Office’s Board of Directors highlighted the significant rise in applications for trademarks, patents, and industrial designs, while announcing the launch of initiatives for the upcoming national strategy for 2027-2035.
OMPIC’s Board of Directors Reviews Achievements for 2025
On June 26 in Rabat, Ryad Mezzour presided over the 41st meeting of the Board of Directors of the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC). This session focused on presenting the progress report for the 2025-2026 period as well as on approving the annual accounts for the year 2025.
During this meeting, the minister reiterated OMPIC’s strategic role in implementing the Kingdom’s industrial and trade policies, emphasizing that industrial property is now a crucial leverage for enhancing the competitiveness of businesses, protecting national innovations, and promoting the “Made in Morocco” label.
Significant Growth in Industrial Property Indicators
The performance recorded in 2025 confirms the rising importance of industrial property in Morocco. Key indicators show sustained growth of over 55% over the last five years.
In 2025, OMPIC recorded:
- 32,091 trademark applications, with 68% originating from Morocco, reflecting a 53% increase in national applications over five years.
- 2,983 patent applications, characterized by an 88% increase in applications from Moroccan sources.
- 6,193 industrial design registrations, with 82% submitted by national entities, representing a 74% rise.
- 138,388 negative certificates issued, up by 9%.
- 109,644 amendments to the commercial register, a 14.6% increase compared to 2024.
Momentum Continues into 2026
The first five months of 2026 affirm this positive trend.
Trademark applications are up by 2%, industrial design applications by 11%, and patent requests have increased by 7%, illustrating the vitality of the national innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Digital Transformation Ongoing
The Board of Directors also reviewed the progress of several digital projects aimed at simplifying procedures for businesses and innovators.
Among the initiatives presented were the development of the DirectEnterprise platform, the “Intellectual Property Marketplace” for patent commercialization, and the widespread adoption of electronic filing for patent applications.
These tools aim to enhance the services offered to entrepreneurs while reinforcing the digitization of the administration.
A New National Strategy by 2035
Additionally, OMPIC announced the commencement of preparatory work for the future National Strategy for Industrial and Commercial Property 2027-2035.
This roadmap will support transformations related to Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, ecological transition, and the innovation economy. It also aims to bolster Morocco’s position as a regional reference point in industrial property and innovation.
