ONEE Invests 365 Million Dirhams to Strengthen Water Supply in Khouribga

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) continues its investments in hydraulic infrastructure with the launch of an extensive program worth 365 million dirhams. This initiative aims to strengthen and secure the drinking water supply for the province of Khouribga and neighboring areas. The project is part of the national strategy to improve the resilience of the network in response to rising demand and the impacts of water stress.

Modernized Infrastructure to Meet Future Needs

The program includes the construction of several key structures, such as 24 kilometers of new water transport pipelines, the establishment of two reservoirs with a capacity of 25,000 m³ each, as well as enhancements to treatment facilities through an additional demineralization capacity of 330 liters per second. The first phase of the project is expected to be operational by December 2026, aimed at improving the reliability of water supply in the region.

Initial Phase Funded by International Partners

The construction site was inaugurated in the presence of local authorities and ONEE officials. This first phase mobilizes an investment of 95 million dirhams, financed with the support of the German Development Bank (KfW) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

This phase notably involves laying down new large-diameter pipes intended to enhance water transport from production facilities to Khouribga and nearby towns.

A Response to Challenges Linked to Water Stress

Through this project, ONEE aims to anticipate the increasing demand for drinking water while ensuring a more reliable and sustainable service for the residents of the province.

Increasing production, storage, and transport capacities will also help better address drought episodes and fluctuations in demand, in a context where managing water resources is a significant challenge for Morocco.

An Investment in Regional Development

By consolidating the hydraulic infrastructure in Khouribga, this program will assist in improving household water supply conditions, supporting economic activities, and enhancing future development projects.

This operation is part of ONEE’s efforts to modernize drinking water networks across the Kingdom and to meet the growing security needs of water resources in various regions.
