BMCE Capital Launches Dedicated Solution to Support Moroccan Transport Companies in Navigating the European Carbon Market

BMCE Capital Markets Launches New Offer for Moroccan Companies in Maritime and Air Transport
BMCE Capital Markets has announced the launch of a new offering aimed at Moroccan companies in the maritime and air transport sectors. This initiative is designed to assist these companies in complying with the European Union’s Emission Trading System (EU ETS). The goal is to help them adapt to the tightening environmental regulations in Europe and to better manage the risks associated with carbon costs.
This offering comes in the context of the gradual implementation of the European carbon pricing mechanism. As of January 1, 2024, maritime activities are progressively being integrated into the European emission trading system, while the aviation sector faces a gradual reduction in the free allowances granted to companies, compelling them to acquire more allowances to cover their CO₂ emissions.
Within this regulatory framework, affected companies must purchase European Union Allowances (EUAs) to offset the carbon dioxide emissions generated by their activities. This obligation presents new challenges related to compliance costs and the volatility of carbon prices in European markets.
The solution developed by BMCE Capital Markets allows Moroccan companies to access the European carbon quota market through a secure system that meets regulatory requirements. The offering includes the execution of quota purchase transactions, connection with European markets, and transaction management by the institution’s specialized trading team.
Additionally, the scheme features technical support and advisory services to help businesses better understand the new regulatory framework and establish effective strategies for managing risks related to fluctuations in carbon prices, leveraging BMCE Capital Markets’ expertise in financial markets and commodity trading.
Through this initiative, BMCE Capital Markets reaffirms its commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan companies by guiding them through the transformations of the global economy. The objective is to integrate carbon emission management into the core of companies’ financial and operational strategies as carbon markets continue to assume an increasingly significant role in international trade and the transition to a low-emission economy.
