Moroccan Passport Retains Position as the Most Powerful in the Maghreb
The Moroccan passport has solidified its status as the most powerful in the Maghreb region, ranking at the top in the latest Global Passport Power Index published on July 24, 2026. This advancement reflects an increase in the number of destinations accessible to Moroccan citizens without the need for a prior visa or with simplified entry procedures.
According to this international ranking, Morocco holds the 67th position globally, allowing its citizens access to 71 destinations without a visa or through streamlined entry processes. This performance highlights an improved freedom of movement for Moroccan travelers compared to several other countries in the region.
Within the Maghreb, the Kingdom maintains its leading position, ahead of Tunisia, which is ranked 72nd globally. Algeria follows at 82nd, with access to 55 destinations without a visa, trailed by Mauritania (83rd) and Libya (94th), reinforcing Morocco’s regional leadership in international mobility.
In the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, the United Arab Emirates continues its impressive rise, occupying the 2nd position globally, with visa-free access to 188 destinations, tying with Japan and South Korea, making it one of the world’s most powerful passports.
On the global stage, Singapore retains the top rank, granting visa-free access to 192 destinations, confirming its status as the passport offering the greatest freedom of movement internationally.
Conversely, at the bottom of the ranking, the passports of Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq remain among the most restrictive in the world, with their holders able to access only a limited number of destinations without a visa, illustrating the significant disparities that persist in international mobility.
