Strengthening Moroccan-Gambian Cooperation in Security: Meeting Between the Interior Ministers

Strengthening Ties Between Morocco and Gambia: A New Chapter in Cooperation

In a bid to bolster the friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Gambia, Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit welcomed his Gambian counterpart, Abdoulie Sanyang, on Tuesday in Rabat. Minister Sanyang is on an official visit to Morocco from April 7 to 11.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on security between the two countries on January 25, 2024, in Dakhla, as stated in a communiqué from the Interior Ministry. Both ministers expressed a joint commitment to enhancing cooperation in various security domains, notably in the fight against terrorism, irregular migration, transnational crime, as well as drug trafficking and human trafficking.

Several cooperation priorities were set during this meeting. These included organizing specialized training sessions for Gambian police officials, focusing on areas such as canine policing, sports security, and the fight against money laundering. Additionally, an exchange of expertise was planned in fields such as criminal investigations, biometric identification, and public order management.

On the sidelines of this visit, the Gambian delegation will visit the Royal Police Institute in Kénitra to explore the training programs, canine units, and educational facilities offered by the Institute.

This visit marks a new chapter in Moroccan-Gambian cooperation, aiming to establish a model of solidarity and effectiveness in both regional and international security.
