OCP: Shipments of Moroccan Phosphates to India

Moroccan OCP Strengthens Its Presence in India’s Fertilizer Supply Chain

The Moroccan group OCP has reinforced its presence in the supply chain of the Indian fertilizer industry. The port of Paradip, located in the state of Odisha, confirmed the arrival of the tanker Richmond Park, which was carrying 12,597 tons of phosphoric acid from Jorf Lasfar. Additional shipments of phosphoric acid and raw phosphate are also scheduled to arrive in the coming days.

A Shipment of 12,597 Tons Arrives at Paradip

The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) confirmed on Sunday, October 25, 2026, the arrival of the Richmond Park, which docked the previous day at 9 PM. The vessel transported 12,597 tons of phosphoric acid loaded at the Moroccan port of Jorf Lasfar, intended for Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL), an Indian company specializing in fertilizer production.

According to the port bulletin issued on October 24, the ship was initially expected to arrive at 6 PM. The document indicated Jorf Lasfar as the loading port, Las Palmas in the Canary Islands as the last stop, and Haldia in West Bengal as the next destination.

The Richmond Park measures 149 meters in length, 24.03 meters in width, and has a declared draft of 10.25 meters. Its docking process at Paradip has been managed by the maritime agent AGS.

At 6 AM on October 25, the ship was still anchored, awaiting a docking berth. It was listed among the vessels awaiting readiness for reception, according to the port’s classification system. By the bulletin on Monday, October 26, it was then classified among the ships ready to dock, with an entry scheduled at the multipurpose terminal at 10 AM. However, the actual docking and commencement of unloading were yet to be confirmed.

OCP and Zuari at the Heart of PPL’s Shareholding

The arrival of this shipment is part of an industrial and financial relationship between the Moroccan group OCP and Paradeep Phosphates Limited. The Indian company is primarily owned by Zuari Maroc Phosphates Private Limited (ZMPPL), a joint venture equally owned by OCP and the Indian fertilizer producer Zuari Agro Chemicals.

According to share acquisition declarations published on June 18 and 19, 2026, at the Indian National Stock Exchange, ZMPPL held 50.37% of PPL’s capital at that time.

This stake accompanies a long-standing relationship in supplying raw materials for fertilizer production. In its annual report for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Paradeep Phosphates indicated that it relies on its strategic relationship with OCP to secure its supplies and benefit from certain cost advantages.

PPL Has a Production Capacity of 3.7 Million Tons

According to its institutional presentation, Paradeep Phosphates has a total fertilizer production capacity of 3.7 million tons per year, spread across three industrial sites. The Paradip facility accounts for 1.8 million tons, the Zuarinagar facility in Goa has a capacity of 1.2 million tons, while the Mangaluru site in Karnataka has a capacity of 700,000 tons.

The company primarily produces complex phosphate fertilizers and diammonium phosphate. Phosphoric acid is an essential raw material for the production of these fertilizers, highlighting the importance of supply flows from Morocco.

A Second Shipment of Phosphoric Acid Expected from Jorf Lasfar

The port schedule released on October 26 also indicates the anticipated arrival of the Chemroad Sakura, another tanker transporting phosphoric acid from Jorf Lasfar.

Measuring 179.53 meters in length and 27.43 meters in width, the vessel was expected to arrive at Paradip on the same day at noon with a cargo of 15,750 tons destined for PPL. The bulletin noted a draft of 11.60 meters, with Las Palmas as the last stop and Haldia as the next destination.

In the latest update provided, the Chemroad Sakura was still listed among the expected vessels. Its actual arrival and the receipt of its cargo remain to be confirmed.

Over 113,000 Tons of Raw Phosphate Announced from Laâyoune

The future arrival program also includes two shipments of raw phosphate departing from Laâyoune in southern Morocco, destined for Paradeep Phosphates.

The Trans Autumn is scheduled to arrive on November 2 at 8 AM, carrying 54,450 tons of raw phosphate. The GW Alpha is expected to follow on the same day at 6 PM, with an additional 58,680 tons.

In total, these two shipments represent 113,130 tons of raw phosphate intended for the Indian company. As with other movements listed in the schedule, these anticipated arrivals are yet to be confirmed by the Paradip Port Authority.

These flows illustrate the role of Moroccan phosphated raw materials in supplying the Indian fertilizer industry, as well as the significance of the industrial ties between OCP and its Indian partner. The announced volumes reflect the intensity of exchanges, without presuming the actual execution of the still-scheduled port operations.
