Strengthening Parliamentary Ties Between Morocco and Zambia: A Zambian Delegation Visits Rabat

Speaker of the House of Representatives Meets Zambian Parliamentary Delegation

On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, welcomed Hearston Mabeta, the President of the Committee on Youth, Sport, and Children’s Issues in the National Assembly of Zambia, in Rabat. Mabeta is visiting Morocco leading a significant parliamentary delegation.

During their meeting, Mr. Talbi El Alami outlined the key aspects of Morocco’s parliamentary experience, highlighting the notable evolution of women’s representation within Parliament. He stressed the growing role of Moroccan women in elected bodies and positions of responsibility, which reflects the significant progress the Kingdom has made towards gender parity, in accordance with the 2011 Constitution.

The Speaker also presented the major development initiatives undertaken by Morocco under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the royal strategy aimed at Africa and the continent’s development.

For his part, Mr. Mabeta commended the strong bilateral relations between Morocco and Zambia. He indicated that this visit is intended to draw inspiration from Morocco’s experience in youth affairs, sports, and child protection, as well as to deepen parliamentary cooperation.

Mabeta also expressed his admiration for the progress Morocco has achieved in the sports sector, particularly in football, citing the historic qualification of the Moroccan national team to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as a noteworthy example.

The meeting, which was also attended by Eliphas Chinyonga, the Zambian Ambassador to Rabat, allowed both parties to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary relations between their respective institutions. The discussions also covered major themes related to youth, including education, employment, social protection, and digital transformation.

The Zambian delegation included several members of parliament, such as Jean Ng’andwe Chisenga, George Kangwa Chisanga, Allen Banda, Ackleo Aaron Banda, Emelda Munashabantu, Alex Katakwe, Sipho Hlazo, and Justin Kapema.
