Cosumar mobilizes 800 million dirhams to support the new agricultural campaign.

Cosumar Group Prepares for the 2026-2027 Agricultural Campaign with 63,000 Hectares of Sugar Crops

Cosumar Group is gearing up for the 2026-2027 agricultural campaign with a comprehensive program that encompasses 63,000 hectares of sugar crops, backed by a financial envelope of approximately 800 million dirhams. This initiative aims to bolster national production and support partner farmers, particularly in light of improved water conditions in key cultivation areas.

In a statement released in Casablanca on October 13, 2026, the group outlined that the program includes 60,000 hectares dedicated to sugar beets and 3,000 hectares for sugar cane. The water reservoir levels supplying the sugar-growing regions have reached 67%, a notable increase from the 32% recorded during the same period last year.

The allocation of land designated for sugar beets is planned as follows: 18,500 hectares in the Doukkala region, 15,500 hectares in Tadla, 15,000 hectares in the Gharb, 6,000 hectares in Loukkos, and 5,000 hectares in Moulouya. Sugar cane will be cultivated on 2,000 hectares in the Gharb and 1,000 hectares in Loukkos.

To enhance yields, Cosumar is leveraging its agricultural aggregation model, which supports partner producers at every stage of the production cycle. This assistance includes providing seeds, fertilizers, and phytosanitary products, as well as the collection and transportation of crops to industrial units.

The initiative relies on a network of more than 120 agriculture advisors and the deployment of modern technologies, including drones, smart irrigation, and rational fertilization. The mechanization of various production stages is also expected to improve productivity and optimize resource use.

In terms of investments, the group is dedicating 120 million dirhams to renewing its fleet of agricultural machinery used for sugar crops. An additional 270 million dirhams will be allocated for modernizing industrial equipment and enhancing the capacity of sugar factories to receive and process crops from the upcoming campaign.

These preparations come on the heels of the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign, during which local sugar beet crops yielded approximately 240,000 tons of white sugar. Reported yields were 55 tons per hectare for sugar beets and 72 tons per hectare for sugar cane.

Support for farmers also represents a significant component of the program. During the previous campaign, partner producers benefited from measures totaling 425 million dirhams, as part of a collaboration between the state and Cosumar. These measures included production and fertilizer subsidies, as well as debt forgiveness for farmers affected in the Gharb and Loukkos areas from the previous campaign.

Through this agricultural program and its industrial investments, Cosumar aims to strengthen the sugar crop supply chains and secure its processing units with local raw materials. These crops additionally contribute to livestock feed and the production of molasses, which is particularly utilized in the manufacture of baking yeast.

This momentum is designed to support agricultural incomes, stimulate industrial activity, and boost the rural economy, while also aiding in meeting a portion of the national market’s sugar needs.
