Energy Transition and Water Security: The AfDB Applauds Morocco’s Progress

African Development Bank Applauds Morocco’s Progress in Energy Transition and Water Security
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has commended the advancements made by Morocco in the fields of energy transition and water security, which are now regarded as two strategic pillars for the sustainable development of the Kingdom.
The African financial institution highlights Morocco’s efforts to bolster its resilience against climate challenges while accelerating the transformation of its energy model and securing its water resources.
An Energy Strategy Focused on Renewables
The AfDB particularly emphasizes the significant investments made by the Kingdom in renewable energy over recent years.
Morocco has established itself as one of the leading African players in the development of solar and wind energy, with the goal of progressively increasing the share of renewable energy in its national energy mix.
This strategy aims to reduce the country’s energy dependence, enhance its energy sovereignty, and support the gradual decarbonization of the national economy.
Water Security at the Heart of National Priorities
The African institution has also highlighted Morocco’s efforts to address water stress and the impacts of climate change.
Major projects such as seawater desalination, hydraulic interconnections, dams, and water conservation programs are among the key levers being employed to enhance the Kingdom’s water security.
Strategic Investments for Climate Resilience
The AfDB believes that the projects undertaken by Morocco contribute to building a more resilient model in the face of climate crises and tensions over natural resources.
These investments also support the economic, industrial, and agricultural development of the country, while creating new opportunities in green sectors and sustainable technologies.
Morocco Solidifies Its Regional Leadership
Through this momentum, Morocco is gradually reinforcing its regional positioning in clean energy and sustainable water resource management.
Today, the Kingdom is seen as a leading African model in energy transition and climate adaptation, according to several financial institutions and international partners.
