Grand Stadium of Agadir: Over One Billion Dirhams for a Major Transformation Ahead of the 2030 World Cup

Morocco is actively advancing its preparations for the 2030 World Cup with the official launch of the modernization works for the Grand Stadium in Agadir. This major project involves an investment exceeding one billion dirhams and will be carried out over a period of 15 months.

The aim is to upgrade the sports facility to meet FIFA’s international standards, enabling it to host prominent matches during the 2030 World Cup.

Work Begins with the Roof and Metal Structure

The first phase of the construction project focuses on renovating the metal structure and roof, which are deemed essential components of the infrastructure.

The works will also include the renewal of technical equipment, the removal of old coverings, major structural interventions, and the modernization of stands, VIP boxes, and spectator reception areas.

This transformation aims to provide a modern, functional stadium that meets the best international benchmarks.

A Renovation Incorporating Environmental Requirements

The project is based on the principles of High Environmental Quality (HQE), which are now widely adopted in sustainable infrastructure.

Project managers have established a “low-impact construction” system designed to minimize the environmental effects of the works. An optimized waste management plan will be implemented, featuring a selective sorting system that allows the recycling of more than 50% of the waste generated on site.

Environmental indicators will also be regularly monitored throughout the project.

A Project Led by SONARGES and ANEP

The modernization of the Grand Stadium of Agadir is being conducted by the National Company for the Realization and Management of Sports Equipment (SONARGES) and the National Agency for Public Equipment (ANEP).

The project also integrates advanced digital tools from the design and management phases, aiming to optimize the quality of execution and monitor the works effectively.

A Broader Urban Transformation Program

The stadium renovation is part of a larger program aimed at developing sports and urban infrastructure in the city of Agadir.

In addition to the sports facility, an additional investment of over 500 million dirhams has been mobilized to enhance the urban environment through several major projects, including roadworks, sanitation, civil engineering structures, parking lots, a city park, an Olympic swimming pool, and a multifunctional sports hall.

Agadir Prepares to Welcome the World in 2030

Inaugurated in 2013 and modernized for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Grand Stadium of Agadir is now entering a new phase of major transformation.

This metamorphosis illustrates Morocco’s ambition to develop world-class sports infrastructure in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted by Spain and Portugal.

Through this iconic project, Agadir is solidifying its position as one of the main host cities for the tournament and is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors, supporters, and delegations from around the globe.
