Laâyoune Strengthens Its Role as a Strategic Hub During the 5th Stage of the Regional Caravan for Foreign Trade

The fifth stage of the Regional Caravan for Foreign Trade, organized last Wednesday by PORTNET S.A. in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, as well as the National Ports Agency, was successfully held in Laâyoune, confirming the sustained economic dynamism of the Southern provinces.

This event gathered a wide range of institutional and economic players around a shared objective: to support the transformation of Moroccan foreign trade and to enhance the strategic potential of the region. It highlighted the numerous advantages of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, including its privileged geographical location, expanding infrastructure, and opportunities within promising sectors such as logistics, fishing, blue economy, and renewable energy.

In his opening speech, the Director General of PORTNET emphasized the importance of digital transformation as a key lever for enhancing competitiveness and streamlining trade exchanges. In this regard, developments on the PORTNET platform were showcased, illustrating the advancements made in simplifying procedures, including the integration of new features that cover a broader range of foreign trade processes.

The various presentations also allowed for highlighting the region’s structural projects, particularly the development of industrial zones in Laâyoune, Boujdour, and Tarfaya, as well as initiatives aimed at enhancing territorial attractiveness. The role of the Regional Investment Center in supporting project holders was particularly underscored, along with the significance of port offerings and connections with the Canary Islands as a gateway to European and African markets.

The meeting was characterized by rich and constructive exchanges between economic operators and representatives of public institutions, providing a direct dialogue space around the challenges, constraints, and prospects of foreign trade.

Through this stage, PORTNET reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the digitization of processes, enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan companies, and actively contributing to the integration of regions into international value chains.
