LEMMA Renews Its Governance and Reaffirms Its Commitment to Pharmaceutical Innovation in Morocco

LEMM Holds Annual General Meeting to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Sector in Morocco

On Monday, June 29, the LEMM (Les Entreprises du Médicament au Maroc) held its annual Ordinary General Assembly. This meeting reviewed the association’s achievements, discussed current challenges in the pharmaceutical sector, and reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing Morocco’s healthcare system. It was also marked by the election of a new board responsible for guiding the association’s strategic directions over the next term.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, AstraZeneca Morocco, represented by Dr. Amine Sekhri, was elected as the new president of LEMM. This governance structure brings together several global leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, reinforcing LEMM’s role as the primary representative organization for the Moroccan subsidiaries of international laboratories engaged in therapeutic innovation.

The vice-presidencies are now held by Bayer Morocco, represented by Mr. Anas Ziati; MSD Morocco, represented by Mr. Elmehdi Rakhi; and Roche Morocco, represented by Dr. Anis Elmekaoui. The position of Secretary General has been entrusted to Pfizer Morocco, represented by Ms. Ouardia Djoudjai, while Pierre Fabre Morocco, represented by Mr. Lotfi Benali, serves as Deputy Secretary General. The treasurer role is held by Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Morocco, represented by Dr. Mehdi Seqat.

Founded in 2005, LEMM is the professional association uniting the Moroccan subsidiaries of international pharmaceutical companies committed to research, development, and innovation. The organization currently comprises 18 companies operating in Morocco, with many having established a presence in the Kingdom for over sixty years, reflecting the enduring trust of major international laboratories in Morocco’s potential and the development of its healthcare ecosystem.

The member companies of LEMM alone account for over 53% of the revenue in the private pharmaceutical market, generate nearly 40% of Morocco’s pharmaceutical exports to Europe and Africa, and create more than 10,000 highly skilled direct and indirect jobs. They are also key players in local drug manufacturing, engaging throughout the value chain—from clinical research and development to production, quality assurance, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and health economics.

Through this new governance, LEMM aims to continue its mission of representing innovative pharmaceutical companies in Morocco, strengthening dialogue with public authorities and all sector stakeholders, while facilitating knowledge transfer, promoting research and development, ensuring early and equitable access to therapeutic innovations, and establishing Morocco as a regional reference platform in health and pharmaceutical industry sectors.
