Mohammed V Airport: A Major Modernization Project of Nearly 300 Million Dirhams in Casablanca

The National Office of Airports (ONDA) is set to launch a significant modernization program for the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. With a projected budget of nearly 300 million dirhams, this initiative aims to fundamentally transform the architecture, organization, and infrastructure of the country’s largest airport.
According to the specifications of the international architectural competition initiated by ONDA, the project seeks to create a modern airport platform that meets the highest international standards in passenger reception, movement efficiency, and infrastructure sustainability.
A New Architectural Identity
The project aims to eliminate the architectural disparities that have emerged over the years due to various expansions of the airport. Terminals T1 and T2 will be integrated into a more harmonious complex in order to provide a coherent visual identity and enhance the travel experience.
The renovation will include a complete redesign of the façades of Terminal 2, on both the city and runway sides, as well as the modernization of boarding bridges and exterior structures. The work will also address wear and tear, corrosion, and damage caused by weather conditions.
Improved Passenger Flow
Enhancing the passenger journey is one of the primary objectives of the project. ONDA plans to expand the check-in areas in Terminal 2 by utilizing currently underused spaces and increasing the number of check-in counters to reduce waiting times, especially during peak periods.
The security check and border control areas will also be restructured to more clearly separate the flows of Moroccan travelers, foreign passengers, and users of the Fast Track service.
Modernization of Arrival Areas
The program also includes a complete reorganization of the customs area, with expanded exits and a more efficient separation of green and red channels. A new independent arrival hall will be created to better manage passenger flows.
Finally, the sanitary facilities will undergo a complete renovation, featuring modern equipment, smart systems, and layouts designed to enhance comfort, privacy, and the quality of services provided to travelers.
