Moroccan Automotive Market Continues Growth in 2026
The Moroccan automotive market is poised for growth in 2026. In the first six months of the year, 131,748 passenger vehicles (PV) and light commercial vehicles (LCV) were registered, marking a 17.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 112,026 units were recorded.
This performance follows a historic 2025, which concluded with over 235,000 registrations, confirming that the current growth is driven by sustained demand rather than merely a recovery effect.
Passenger Cars Remain the Market Engine
Passenger vehicles continue to dominate sales with 116,802 registrations, an increase of 17.6% year-on-year. They account for nearly 89% of the national market.
Light commercial vehicles also showed positive growth, with 14,946 units sold, reflecting a 17.5% rise, demonstrating strong investment by businesses and professionals.
The month of June alone confirms this dynamic. Dealers sold 27,193 vehicles, up from 23,298 a year earlier, resulting in a 16.7% increase. Sales of passenger cars reached 24,649 units, while light commercial vehicle sales surged by nearly 28%.
Electrified Vehicles See Record Growth
A major change in the market is the acceleration of sales for electrified vehicles.
In the first half of the year, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid, electric, and range-extended electric vehicles totaled 19,611 registrations, reflecting a spectacular 97.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
These powertrains now represent 16.8% of passenger vehicle sales, up from just 10% a year ago.
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) show the most significant growth with 6,090 units, a remarkable increase of 170.3%. Conventional hybrids (HEVs) reached 7,748 vehicles, while mild hybrids (MHEVs) surpassed 3,450 registrations.
100% electric vehicles (BEVs) continued their upward trajectory with 1,060 sales, nearly a 130% increase.
Another novelty for this year is the emergence of range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs), which already have 1,262 registrations, highlighting the rapid diversification of the offerings available in the Moroccan market.
Diesel Remains Dominant but Losing Ground
While diesel retains its top position, its share is steadily declining.
As of the end of June, it accounted for 64.6% of passenger vehicle registrations, down from nearly 73% a year earlier.
Gasoline has increased to 18.6%, while various electrified technologies are gradually establishing themselves as a cornerstone of the national automotive market.
Chinese Manufacturers Accelerate Their Impact
Another notable trend is the rise of Chinese brands.
In the first half of 2026, 21 Chinese manufacturers accounted for 13,148 registrations, increasing their market share to 11.3%, up from just 4.8% a year ago.
This growth is supported by a now highly diversified offering that covers all types of powertrains: gasoline, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electric, and REEV.
In June, Chinese brands represented 10.8% of monthly passenger car sales.
Dacia Maintains Its Leadership
In the passenger vehicle segment, Dacia remains the clear market leader with 6,400 registrations in June.
It is followed by Renault, which recorded 4,681 sales, while Peugeot completes the podium with 1,543 units.
Volkswagen and Hyundai are also among the five best-selling brands of the month.
In the light commercial vehicle market, Renault retains its leadership ahead of Hyundai and Fiat.
Among Chinese manufacturers, BYD remains the top-selling brand in the passenger car market, followed by Soueast and Chery, while Dongfeng leads the light commercial vehicle segment.
A Market in Transformation
Beyond the increase in registrations, the figures from the first half of the year highlight a profound transformation in the Moroccan automotive market.
The rise of electrified vehicles, the rapid growth of Chinese manufacturers, and the diversification of powertrains illustrate the changing expectations of consumers and the gradual transformation of the national automotive industry, which is increasingly called upon to play a critical role in the transition towards more sustainable mobility.
