Moroccan Exports of Fruits and Vegetables to Spain Reach 950 Million Euros in Six Months

Moroccan agricultural products continue to strengthen their presence in the Spanish market. During the first half of 2026, Morocco maintained its position as the leading supplier of fruits and vegetables to Spain from outside the European Union, aided by its geographical proximity, diversity of offerings, and ability to meet European demand.

According to data from the Spanish Federation of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, and Live Plants, Spanish imports of Moroccan agricultural products reached nearly €950 million during the first six months of 2026, marking an increase of approximately 6% year-on-year.

In contrast, the volume of imports from Morocco decreased by about 7%, settling at over 351,000 tons. This contrasting trend between value and volume reflects an increase in the average value of certain Moroccan exports, despite a drop in the quantities shipped.

Spanish Imports Continue to Rise

On a broader scale within the Spanish market, imports of fruits and vegetables also saw an increase in the first half of 2026. Spain imported around 2.5 million tons of products valued at nearly €3 billion.

Year-on-year, the volumes imported rose by 6.8%, while their value increased by 4.4% compared to the first half of 2025.

These figures indicate a sustained demand in the Spanish market, both from European suppliers and from major non-European producers and exporters.

Countries outside the European Union accounted for approximately 72% of the total value of Spanish imports and 54% of the volumes during the study period.

The value of these imports reached nearly €2.23 billion, representing an increase of about 7% year-on-year, while the volumes amounted to around 1.4 million tons.

Morocco Leads Non-European Suppliers

In this context, Morocco has established itself as the leading non-European supplier to Spain, significantly ahead of its main competitors and reaffirming the growing importance of Moroccan agricultural products in Spanish supply chains.

Peru ranks second with exports of about €289 million, followed by Costa Rica at nearly €182 million.

Brazil follows closely with a value nearing €121 million, while Egyptian exports to Spain reached approximately €60 million during the same period.

These disparities highlight the lead that Morocco has taken in the Spanish market, where Moroccan agricultural products benefit particularly from their proximity to Europe and the development of export infrastructure and capacity.

France Tops European Suppliers

Among the European Union member states, Spain imported around 1.019 million tons of agricultural products from its European partners, amounting to a total value of nearly €856 million.

France stands out as the top European supplier with a value exceeding €211 million, for a volume greater than 657,000 tons.

The Netherlands holds the second position with over €142 million, followed by Portugal and Italy, which are also among the main European suppliers to the Spanish market.

Geographical Proximity: An Asset for Morocco

These results illustrate the growth of Moroccan agricultural exports to European markets, with Spain serving as one of the principal destinations for Moroccan products.

Geographical proximity presents a significant competitive advantage for Moroccan exporters, notably allowing them to reduce delivery times and transportation costs compared to competitors located in more distant markets.

In addition to this advantage, the diversity of Moroccan agricultural offerings and the staggered production periods enable exporters to maintain a consistent presence in the Spanish market and meet demand year-round.

With an increasing export value, Morocco is thereby solidifying its position as the primary non-European supplier of fruits and vegetables to Spain, while also reinforcing its role within European agricultural supply chains.
