Moroccan Passport: First in the Maghreb and Fifth in Africa According to the Global Passport Index 2026

Moroccan Passport Ranks as the Most Powerful in the Maghreb and Fifth in Africa, According to the 2026 Global Passport Index
The Moroccan passport retains its position as the strongest in the Maghreb and ranks fifth in Africa, as reported by the 2026 Global Passport Index published by Global Citizen Solutions. This ranking assesses passport performance based on various criteria, extending beyond mere international mobility to include quality of life, investment opportunities, and economic environment.
Morocco achieved a score of 47.8 points out of 100 in a study involving 197 countries and territories, evaluated on 14 indicators. Globally, Sweden ranks first, while Afghanistan occupies the last position.
The report highlights Morocco’s increasingly assertive diplomatic and regional presence. The Moroccan passport enables access to a growing number of destinations either visa-free or with simplified procedures compared to various other African nations. However, Moroccan travelers still need visas for many international destinations.
The authors of the study believe that expanding visa exemption agreements could further strengthen the Moroccan passport’s ranking in future editions, thanks to enhanced diplomatic cooperation and new international partnerships.
Globally, European countries overwhelmingly dominate the rankings, holding nine of the top ten positions, illustrating the strength of their diplomatic networks and the freedom of movement enjoyed by their citizens.
