Fès Sports Complex Enters Major Renovation Phase Ahead of 2030 World Cup
The Fès Sports Complex is entering a new phase of significant renovations as part of Morocco’s comprehensive national program to modernize sports infrastructure in preparation for the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
In this context, the National Agency for Public Equipment has issued an international open call for tenders for the first phase of the stadium’s rehabilitation project. This initiative highlights the scale of investment required to elevate the complex to the standards necessary for hosting World Cup matches.
This initial phase includes demolition and removal work, major structural enhancements, waterproofing efforts, the construction of metal structures, surface coatings, and the installation of false ceilings. The project also encompasses carpentry and painting tasks.
The estimated budget for the project is set at 2.816 billion dirhams, with a provisional deposit of 40 million dirhams required to participate in the call for tenders, underscoring the financial significance of this operation.
Bids are expected to be opened on September 22, 2026, at the temporary facilities of the Grand Stadium of Fès.
This new initiative is part of a broader program aimed at modernizing Moroccan stadiums and enhancing their capacity to host major international sporting events, particularly the 2030 World Cup.
The Fès Sports Complex previously underwent a significant rehabilitation before its reopening in June 2025, with renovations that lasted nearly 13 months. This earlier work focused on updating and modernizing various elements of the venue in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the requirements associated with hosting the World Cup impose higher technical and organizational standards. This new phase of renovations aims to build upon previous updates and address multiple aspects of the sports complex.
The project is part of a larger national strategy for modernizing sports infrastructure, with the goal of ensuring the full compliance of Moroccan stadiums selected for the 2030 World Cup with FIFA standards and requirements.
With an investment exceeding 2.8 billion dirhams, the rehabilitation of the Fès Sports Complex exemplifies the commitment to strengthening the Kingdom’s sports infrastructure.
