Morocco Strengthens Its Role in African Air Integration and Enhances Continental Connectivity

Morocco’s Commitment to Strengthening African Air Transport Integration

Morocco is continuing its efforts to enhance the integration of air transport across the African continent, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This statement was made by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, during the African Air Transport Convention and Exhibition 2026 held in Lomé.

This participation highlights the Kingdom’s strategy to solidify its status as a regional air hub and a key player in South-South cooperation within the air transport sector.

Morocco’s Commitment to the African Single Air Transport Market

The minister emphasized Morocco’s commitment to implementing the African Single Air Transport Market (SAATM), an initiative launched by the African Union in 2018 aimed at liberalizing and facilitating air travel among countries on the continent.

In this context, Morocco currently boasts a network that connects Casablanca to 32 African capitals, confirming its strategic role in enhancing intra-African air exchanges. The Kingdom also aims to further expand this connectivity to support the continent’s economic integration.

Royal Air Maroc at the Center of Connectivity Strategy

Abdessamad Kayouh also highlighted the developmental prospects of the Moroccan aviation sector, particularly through the strengthening of Royal Air Maroc’s fleet and improving the operational capacities of the national carrier.

These developments are part of a long-term vision aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan air transport and supporting the growth of passenger and freight traffic.

Air Cargo Development by 2037

Finally, the minister discussed projects related to the development of air cargo by 2037, a strategic initiative aimed at supporting the increase in commercial exchanges between Morocco and the rest of the African continent.

Through these initiatives, the Kingdom reaffirms its ambition to play a central role in shaping a modern, integrated, and competitive African airspace.
