Morocco Takes a Step Towards Its Integration into TV5MONDE Governance

Morocco’s Official Interest in Joining TV5MONDE Governance
In a letter dated April 21, 2026, addressed to the Swiss presidency of the donor governments of TV5MONDE, the Kingdom of Morocco has officially expressed its interest in joining the governance of the Francophone audiovisual network. This move makes Morocco the first African state to engage in the process of joining this partnership.
Opening Up the Governance of the Francophone Network
Founded in 1984, TV5MONDE is now present in nearly 200 countries and territories, making it the world’s primary Francophone audiovisual network. It is financed and governed by six donor states: Canada, France, Switzerland, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Quebec, and Monaco.
Since 2025, these governments have initiated a gradual opening of the governance structure to other member countries of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), aiming to create a shared and more representative audiovisual space celebrating Francophone diversity.
Morocco Affirms Its Commitment
In his letter, Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, expressed the Kingdom’s desire to join this partnership, emphasizing a commitment grounded in shared values such as transparency and good governance.
This initiative marks a significant step in Morocco’s accession process to the governance of TV5MONDE.
Towards Enhanced Cooperation with SNRT
As part of this development, joint efforts will be undertaken between the representatives of the donor governments and their Moroccan counterparts to explore the practical modalities of this accession.
TV5MONDE also plans to strengthen its collaboration with the National Broadcasting and Television Company (SNRT), particularly through the co-production of content and its broadcasting on the network’s channels as well as on the TV5MONDE+ platform.
A Process Based on Shared Values
The opening process initiated in 2025 is based on strict eligibility criteria, requiring candidate states to uphold the fundamental values of TV5MONDE, including editorial independence, transparency, pluralism, and journalistic rigor.
This initiative aims to consolidate a Francophone media space that is grounded in multilateralism, cultural diversity, and cooperation among member countries.
A Growing Global Audiovisual Network
TV5MONDE, which reaches over 400 million households globally with its ten channels and content subtitled in multiple languages, continues to expand through digital and educational platforms, thus strengthening its global presence in the international audiovisual landscape.
