Nador West Med Secures €196.7 Million in Funding for Its East Terminal

Nador West Med Project Reaches New Development Milestone

The Nador West Med project has reached a new milestone in its development. West Med Container Terminal (WMCT), the concessionaire of the future East Terminal within the port complex, has secured long-term financing of €196.7 million (approximately 2.1 billion dirhams) from a consortium of three Moroccan banks.

This financing operation, structured as a Project Finance scheme, will help cover part of the investments necessary for the realization of the first section of the East Terminal, which is set to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2026.

15-Year Financing for a Strategic Project

The 15-year loan represents one of the final steps in securing the financial backing for this major port infrastructure.

The total estimated cost for the initial phase of the East Terminal is nearly €253 million. The bank financing thus supplements the mechanism intended to support the timely execution of the project.

A Future Logistics Hub in the Mediterranean

The East Terminal of Nador West Med aims to strengthen Morocco’s position on major international shipping routes and to reinforce its role as a logistical platform between Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean basin.

Its development will enhance the national capacity for handling containers, attract new international shipping lines, and support trade flows within the Kingdom.

A Project at the Heart of Morocco’s Port Strategy

The financing of the East Terminal is part of the broader development dynamics of the Nador West Med complex, which is expected to become one of the key port and industrial hubs in the country.

This strategic project aims to bolster Morocco’s logistical competitiveness, create new investment opportunities, and accelerate the economic development of the Oriental region.

The commissioning of the first section of the terminal is anticipated before the end of 2026, marking a significant step in the advancement of Nador West Med.
