Public Lighting: Six Municipalities in Casablanca-Settat Launch Major Overhaul of Their Network

The Casablanca-Settat region is preparing to launch an extensive project to modernize public lighting in six strategic municipalities: Casablanca, Mohammedia, El Jadida, Bouskoura, Aïn Harrouda, and Bni Yakhlef.

Led by the Regional Multi-Service Company of Casablanca-Settat (SRM-CS), this initiative aims to completely rethink the lighting networks to enhance energy efficiency, reinforce citizen safety, and beautify urban spaces.

A Comprehensive Diagnosis of the Network Will Be Conducted

The project includes a detailed mapping of all existing installations. Each light point, electrical cabinet, and kilometer of cable will be identified, geolocated, and analyzed to gain a precise understanding of the current state of the network.

The authorities aim to specifically identify:

  • under-lit areas
  • sectors with excessive energy consumption
  • technical malfunctions
  • sources of light pollution

This analysis will also help identify intervention priorities for the coming years.

Municipalities Are Focusing on LED and Smart Technologies

Several modernization scenarios will be explored, with a specific emphasis on:

  • the gradual replacement of outdated equipment with LED fixtures
  • the installation of intelligent remote management systems
  • the automatic adjustment of light intensity based on area usage
  • the potential integration of solar and hybrid solutions

The goal is to reduce energy consumption while enhancing the quality of urban lighting.

A Regional Strategy to Cut Costs and Improve Quality of Life

Public lighting currently represents a significant portion of local government expenditures. Through this transformation, the involved municipalities seek to limit operational costs, reduce carbon footprints, and enhance the urban appeal of the region.

This initiative also occurs in the context of Casablanca-Settat accelerating its infrastructure projects and urban modernization in anticipation of major international events.

A Regional Charter for Public Lighting Is in Preparation

The project will also result in the establishment of a regional charter that defines the technical standards and rules to be followed for future public lighting projects.

This charter will specifically set:

  • quality standards
  • recommended lighting levels
  • maintenance criteria
  • energy performance indicators

It will serve as a reference for all future developments in the municipalities involved.
