Rabat Takes a Significant Step in Cultural Promotion
The city of Rabat has reached a new milestone in its continental cultural influence with the official inauguration of the permanent headquarters of the African Capitals of Culture. This new structure will coordinate the program across the continent, support future host cities, and enhance cultural exchanges among African countries.
This establishment confirms Morocco’s growing role in promoting African cultural cooperation and developing projects that foster dialogue among the peoples of the continent.
A Coordination Center for Future Editions
The Permanent Secretariat of the African Capitals of Culture will be responsible for supporting the organization of the upcoming editions of the program, developing cultural and institutional partnerships, and promoting culture as a driver of economic, social, and tourism development.
The goal is also to highlight the richness of African heritage, facilitate the movement of artists and creators, and enhance the visibility of African culture on the international stage.
A Legacy from the Event Held in Rabat
This inauguration follows the first edition of the African Capitals of Culture, held in Rabat in 2022-2023 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This event allowed Morocco’s capital to host numerous artistic, cultural, and intellectual events showcasing the cultural diversity of the African continent.
Looking Forward to the 2028 Edition in Cape Verde
The program is now preparing for its next major milestone with the organization of the 2028 edition in Cape Verde. This designation was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Committee of African Capitals of Culture and Cape Verdean authorities.
This new edition aims to continue the momentum initiated by Rabat and to further strengthen cultural ties between the different regions of the continent.
Morocco Strengthens Its Cultural Leadership in Africa
By hosting the permanent headquarters of the African Capitals of Culture, Morocco solidifies its position as a key player in the field of African cultural cooperation.
This initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s strategy to enhance south-south exchanges, promote African heritage, and make culture a vehicle for sustainable development and international influence.
