Rico Langhaine Takes the Helm of German Cooperation in Morocco
The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) has appointed Rico Langhaine as the new resident director in Morocco, succeeding Katrin Lorenz, who is stepping down after three years of leading the agency’s activities in the Kingdom.
This change comes as Morocco and Germany continue to strengthen their cooperation across various economic and development sectors as part of the established partnership between the two governments, particularly focusing on sustainable development priorities.
During her tenure, Katrin Lorenz collaborated with GIZ teams on several key areas, including promoting inclusive development, supporting employment, accelerating the green transition, and assisting initiatives stemming from Moroccan-German cooperation.
GIZ states that this leadership transition continues its efforts to reinforce the partnership between the two countries. The agency is particularly relying on the experience of its new director to enhance its activities and expand its programs in Morocco.
Rico Langhaine brings significant experience in the field of international cooperation and development. He has held leadership roles within GIZ in Cameroun, where he served as a resident director and national director for the agency.
This hands-on experience is expected to enable him to continue implementing cooperation programs in Morocco and strengthen coordination with various institutional partners and local stakeholders.
Having been present in Morocco for several decades, GIZ has had its operational headquarters in Rabat since 1999. The agency currently employs over 228 local staff and 46 international staff in the Kingdom.
This presence underscores the significance of the programs implemented by German cooperation in Morocco, especially in priority areas such as the green transition, employment, and sustainable development.
The appointment of Rico Langhaine comes at a time when the Moroccan-German partnership is experiencing robust dynamism, with an increasing focus on economic, environmental, and social challenges.
